How to get help from Home-Start
All parents struggle at one time or another. For some, the challenges can be greater. You are not alone.
Support from Home-Start
Befriending is offered at times of stress by trained volunteers who work towards increasing the confidence and independence of parents.
Being a parent has never been easy. It can be lonely, frustrating, heart breaking and overwhelming.
Life-changing events can happen to anyone. That is why Home-Start Goole is ready to support families through their toughest times.
Every Home-Start volunteer is trained to work alongside you to help you to overcome the challenges you are facing. We work with you to build on your strengths and give you the support that you tell us that you need.
How to get help
Home-Start support is completely free, you do not have to pay for any of our support and it is entirely voluntary.
It might be suggested to you by a health visitor, a doctor or another professional but it is entirely up to you if you want to work with Home-Start.
We are very experienced in matching families with volunteers who we think will understand your situation and be able to work with you. If either you or the volunteer is not happy you can end the relationship and try another match.
All of our support is confidential. You don’t have to tell anyone that you are being supported by Home-Start, and we will never tell anyone else unless you say that we can.
Home-Start Goole & District groups
Not all of our support and work happens in the family home. When that’s not right for a family, or where we are helping to address isolation and loneliness, create wider network and connections, building relationships and confidence, our groups are often a great way to get the help you need in the right environment. It is possible to receive support at home and in a group, start with a group and transition to home support or use a group as a transition period as home support reaches a conclusion.
Parent Support Group
As well as our home visits, we have two Parent Support Groups that run each week.
Every Tuesday morning in the Courtyard, Boothferry Road, Goole from 9:30 -11:30.
Every Wednesday morning at the café within Selby Abbey, Selby 10.30am – 12.30pm.
Both groups are completely free of charge!
This is an opportunity for parents to connect with other families with children under 11 and find out more about what Home-Start can do.
These are informal and very friendly groups. Stay for a quick cuppa, or stay for two hours, it’s up to you, we’d love to see you there!
Family Room
We also have a Family Room at the Courtyard. It is spacious and comfortable with toys and resources for children and families. It is used by families who prefer to meet outside of the family home, but still in a confidential and safe space.
